We are excited to confirm that at the end of Term 3 the garden and river project at Black Rock Preschool was completed! Although this was a significant financial investment for the kindergarten, we are confident it is a very positive and worthwhile addition to our external facilities and one which will provide lots of interaction and learning opportunities for our children.
The response so far from parents, children and educators has been very positive with the children watching eagerly and offering advice to the workers throughout the construction process! We have planted a number of fruit trees (mandarin, apple and lemon) and added some grasses along the rocky river bed, which we feel sure the children will have hours of fun exploring.
By the end of October the river bed water pump will be installed and fully operational for the children to use and pump water down the river. The water pump will be connected t0 a tank that will sit at the back of our decking.
A project such as this one is not possible without the amazing support of our kindergarten community, both past and present. We would also like to acknowledge the support we received from ECMS, who provided us with a grant of $2,000 towards the project.
As always, we welcome your suggestions regarding all aspects of the kindergarten. If you have any specific feedback you would like to provide in relation to the river bed, please do not hesitate to contact Michelle Ayyucce at president.black.rock.kin@gmail.com.
