Black Rock Pre-School (BRPS) is an independent community pre-school and has been located in Black Rock village since 1953. Our parent committee aspire to build strong relationships with our families so that they feel a sense of belonging and inclusion; and as we work together in partnership, we are able to help each child reach their maximum potential.
At Black Rock Pre-School, we advocate for the rights of all children; we recognize children as active participants in their own learning: so that children are competent learners; and that our educators endeavour to build an engaging learning environment and curriculum that draws on each child’s unique individual abilities through play based interaction.
We openly embrace all of our individual family cultures, to establish our BRPS community. Educators endeavour to provide a learning environment where we have families sharing their time, their strengths, and their individual cultures and expertise, to bring new skills and knowledge to everyone who participates in educating the BRPS children. The children’s learning programs also recognizes the Boon-Wurrung people as the traditional custodians of the land where we work, play and gather. Our educators acknowledge the Boon-Wurrung people within the curriculum and the children gain understanding of cultural equity, inclusion and diversity. We seek to develop ongoing links with our community partners.
We understand that all of our educators are unique individuals who come from different backgrounds. Our staff come from all over Melbourne, and have different home cultures, perspectives and experiences that can be shared with the children. As a team we acknowledge the importance of social equality, co-operation, shared responsibility, mutual respect and high self-esteem for all; each member is valued and supported.
Our educators are focused on creating a safe and enriching learning environment that encourages children to be active, inquisitive and independent learners. By providing opportunities for the children to express their feelings and develop emerging life skills in a safe and positive atmosphere, children begin to learn to think for themselves. The quality curriculum at BRPS reflect the Victorian Early Years Learning Framework (VEYLF); and we incorporate the national curriculum of Being Becoming and Belonging. Our educational programs incorporate opportunities of wondering, investigating and discovering our world together. We provide the tools to learn, think and critically analyse information to become life-long learners.
The children’s individual needs are met, leaving enough room to accommodate topics that emerge from group discovery. We believe that play is so important as play based exploration ensures that all children are able to “become” in their own time. All children have the right to play; as this is the way they make sense of the world around them. Children learn so much through play because they can be anybody; they can do anything.
